To replace the battery of your Toyota 4Runner frequency operated button (FOB) key, follow these steps:
What You Need. A small flathead screwdriver or a coin. A CR2032 battery (the common battery used in many Toyota FOB key)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Locate the Seam. On the back of your FOB key, look for a small seam or notch along the edge of the FOB.
Open the FOB. Use a small flathead screwdriver or coin to gently pry apart the two halves of the FOB. Be careful not to damage the plastic casing. Some FOB’s may have a small button to press or a slot to insert the tool.
Remove the Old Battery. Once the FOB is open, you should see the battery. Remove the old CR2032 battery by gently lifting it out.
Insert the New Battery. Place the new CR2032 battery into the FOB with the positive side (+) facing up (the metal side facing down). Make sure it’s seated properly.
Reassemble the FOB. Carefully snap the two halves of the FOB back together, making sure it’s securely closed.
Test the Key FOB. After replacing the battery, press a button to check if the FOB key works properly. If the FOB doesn’t work, double-check the battery orientation and ensure it’s seated properly.
Tips. Always double-check the battery orientation. If the FOB still doesn’t work after replacing the battery, make sure the contacts inside the FOB are not corroded or dirty.
This process is simple, but if you run into any issues, your Toyota dealership can also replace the battery for you.
